The project investor is Shell Development Oman as part of its Solar into Schools initiative that aims to install solar systems through 22 schools across the Sultanate. Located in Oman's Al Batinah North Governorate, the PV plants of the project are installed on the rooftops of Kaab Bin Barsha School in Saham and Al Asma's Bint Al Harith School for self-use. The two plants not only save electricity bills for users, but also reduce the power consumption of schools.
The bifacial module has a natural advantage in reducing the electricity cost thanks to its excellent performance in power generation. However, the mismatch becomes more serious since the sunlight is uneven on the back of the bifacial module. As Dr. Firas Al-Abduwani from HTC (EPC) said, “The Kaab Bin Barsha plant appears to be benefiting from bifacial modules significantly and may be Oman's highest performing plant at 90% PR value measured at PoC.”
Oman targets to install six wind and solar parks with a combined capacity of 2.65GW by 2024, according to Brian Wood, planning and economics director of Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP).
