Brazilian institution launches Solar Label

Share

The initiative was put in place along with the Brazilian Energy Commercialization Chamber – CCEE, a nonprofit civic organization responsible for facilitating and managing the sale of electricity in the country.

The Solar Label will be awarded to companies that have a minimum consumption of solar electricity, which varies according to their total energy consumption. For instance, consumers classified in the Brazilian tariff subgroup A1, which typically require large amounts of energy, will have to consume at least 1,000 MWh per year of solar electricity.

The company can either install its own system or purchased the energy on the free market. If it choose the second option, the candidate must have a solar electricity contract for a minimum of five years. The label development process had the support of German Development Cooperation through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and KfW Bankengruppe.
