CIC Group completes 6 MW of solar power plants in Sardinia

The project was carried out in cooperation with the Norwegian photovoltaics company REC. Between them the two companies invested a total of 13 million Euros in the Italian island. Sardinia is one of the places which gets the most sun in Europe and therefore particularly suitable for the production of solar energy.

The two plants were built in a record time of four weeks on areas of disused industrial wasteland. The large solar park at Villacidro is capable of supplying electric power to some 2,700 households, the smaller park at Lula to some 540. Both plants have already been connected to the grid.

The construction of these plants was entirely realised without borrowed capital. Says Mr. Jens Schulz, CIC Group Director: “In a difficult political and financial environment we have proved that we are able to get even such a project done through our own strength. This makes me very proud.”

Says Mr. Matthias Ermer, Director Europe with REC Systems and Managing Director of REC Systems Germany GmbH: “What was important to us was to carry out the project together with a company which had already gathered plenty of experience in Italy. This experience is exactly what the CIC Group features besides its expert know-how.”

Only REC Group solar modules were used. In the Photon Module Yield Test 2011, they turned out to feature the highest performance of all tested products. Moreover, the REC modules have the smallest carbon footprint among multicrystalline modules.
