The Sustainable Business Awards, which is the region’s leading sustainability awards, showcases the most innovative and impactful sustainable practices and green solutions among organizations in the country. The accolade recognises DSM’s approach to understanding its material impacts and the depth at which they engage with their stakeholders.
Officiating the award ceremony was Masagos Zulkifli bin Masagos Mohamad, Singapore's Minister for the Environment and Water Resources.
“Our win at Sustainable Business Awards 2018 shows DSM’s hard-won efforts as we evolve towards a science-based company that is purpose-led in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living,” commented Christina Celestine, Director Regional Communications & External Affairs Asia Pacific/China at DSM.
“In Singapore, DSM has partnered a social enterprise, 45RICE using our fortified rice solution and technology to help 500,000 foreign migrant workers combat malnutrition. This aligns with the Singapore Government’s aim to safeguard the country’s food supply in the context of climate change, as the nation works closely with industry partners to develop new solutions and products within the food industry,” added Celestine.
“DSM Singapore also engages the public through other sustainability efforts. We recently participated in Singapore’s #beatplasticpollution campaign to raise awareness of plastic waste. The campaign was well aligned with DSM’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production.
In addition, the company supported nation-wide World Environment Day activities and participated at the Sustainability Solutions Expo in June 2018 to speak about the importance of having a Circular Economy.”
The win recognises DSM Singapore’s aims to make healthier, higher performing and sustainable solutions that improve the lives of people in Asia Pacific and around the world.
Tony Gourlay, CEO of Global Initiatives, said: “DSM Singapore is a leading example of a company that prioritizes the responsibility of businesses to address the challenges posed by global megatrends and puts great effort into working with the right people and organizations to realize their business and sustainability goals.”
In 2017, DSM ranked 2nd place on Fortune Magazine’s 3rd annual Change the World list, out of 56 companies that induced positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy.
