The PowerPlus HPG product addresses growing demand for reliable and sustainable microgrid solutions across different sectors, especially remote sites with little or no access to the grid, or locations relying on diesel generators.

At its heart lies an advanced programmable controller and battery management system coupled with smart AC distribution and a user-friendly interface, making the unit really versatile and capable of working from 100% renewable energy sources, including solar and wind facilities.

The integrated, high-capacity batteries – available as either AGM [absorbent glass mat, lead-acid] or LFP [lithium iron phosphate] options – provide up to 60% run time saving over diesel-only generators, and can help save up to 2,000 liters of fuel each month. Thanks to the hybrid set-up, the diesel generator is only required sporadically as back-up, usually during peak demand or to recharge the batteries. This in turn reduces the risk of mechanical failures, significantly decreases maintenance costs and extends product life. When renewables such as solar and wind are added to the system, the run time of the generator can be further reduced to the point of potentially not needing it at all.

One of the goals of Firefly is to make sustainable power accessible in markets which did not see it as possible. Utilizing PowerPlus in off-grid applications allows for what is effectively a small power station to be deployed rapidly. Adding on solar or wind power for additional charging capability can reduce the need for diesel. This enables even the most remote locations to utilize renewable sources of power.

By incorporating PowerPlus units into microgrids, users will also benefit from a significant reduction in noise, as well as CO2, NOx, N2O, and SO2 emissions, resulting in improvements to air quality and increased convenience for nearby residents. On average, around 5.5 tons of CO2 and 74kg of N2O emissions can be prevented every month when using PowerPlus.

Powerplus comes with a built-in management system allowing for complete control of power production. Energy consumption and usage are monitored in real-time and recorded for analysis, either via the built-in 7in touchscreen, or using our online management tool, GLOW RFM.

GLOW RFM, which powers all Firefly battery hybrid products, offers complete remote control over the unit via the web, troubleshooting, detailed environmental reporting and a host of more advanced capabilities, such as user-programmable logic solutions, individual outlet configuration and custom e-mail notifications. The resulting power system is powerful yet extremely easy to operate and maintain.

David Piper, head of off-grid power solutions at Firefly, said: “We observe a steady rise in demand for hybrid power across many industries. PowerPlus is aimed primarily at organizations seeking a complete and reliable microgrid power solution for remote or unattended installations, telecoms infrastructure, construction sites and emergency response scenarios. It will enable many industries to reduce their carbon footprint and utilize renewables in places which may not have been considered before.”
