NRG Energy donated US$1 million through the Clinton Global Initiative towards the The Sun Lights the Way: Brightening Boucan Carré project which also saw Trina Solar donate the panels used to power 20 schools in the region.

Such was the remoteness of some of the locations that panels had to be transported by donkey.

With the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund supplying a further $500,000 to the project – co-ordinated by non-profit group the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) – the scheme also saw the aereation units of six tanks at the Lashto Fish Farm converted to solar and a solar market garden irrigation system installed at the Lashto Zanmi Agrikol farm.
