Krannich Solar constructs 1.4 MWp solar park in Germany's Mecklenburg lake district

Krannich Solar has constructed another solar park in the rural town of Neukalen, on the outskirts of the Mecklenburg lake district in Germany. With an output of almost 1.4 MWp, a total of around 1.390 MWh of solar electricity will be fed into the public grid each year. Krannich Projekt GmbH was responsible for the planning, and constructed the park within one month.

Averaging 1,600 hours of sunshine per year, Neukalen is not exactly the sunniest spot in Germany. But it was good enough for the solar park to operate profitably. Investors had this confirmed by experts before the construction of the park in Neukalen’s industrial area began.
At the beginning of the year, 5,940 modules manufactured by Canadian Solar were installed over an area of 2.2 hectares. Inverters were sourced from German manufacturer SMA. The park was officially connected to the grid on 11 February 2015. The 1,390 megawatts of electricity generated annually is enough to power 347 four-person households. For Neukalen, this means that the solar park can provide approximately 70% of the town’s power needs.
Mayor Willi Voss is also delighted that another part of the town’s industrial area has been put to use, and that it will pump money into the town’s coffers. Due to the park’s location on Neukalen land, the municipality will receive rental income and business taxes. It is not just the town that will benefit from the construction of the facility. Local firms will take on maintenance and troubleshooting services for the site, as well as upkeep of the grounds, for example mowing.
