Longi President Li Zhenguo announces the age of photovoltaics

On 9 July 2018, the 9th German-Chinese Forum for Economic and Technological Cooperation took place in Berlin.

The Forum is jointly organised by the National Reform and Development Commission of China and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi). High-ranking guests and speakers such as Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were among the speakers. As a representative of companies from the renewable energy sector, Longi President Li Zhenguo was invited to express his opinion on the subject of “energy production and energy efficiency”.

Mr Li Zhenguo said at the panel discussion with high-ranking representatives of German and Chinese companies: “In recent years, photovoltaic technology has developed rapidly; costs have fallen rapidly. New technological breakthroughs in efficiency and cost reduction have surpassed the imagination of all market participants.

“Over the next two to three years, photovoltaics will be the cheapest power source in most parts of the world. And within ten years, the combination of photovoltaics (PV) and energy storage will be the most cost-effective energy solution. Once the economics of PV and energy storage are competitive, traditional fossil fuels will be quickly replaced.”

“With photovoltaics, if it achieves grid parity worldwide, we can live up to our social responsibility to preserve the earth. In a concrete scenario, Mr Li described how large sea desalination plants can be operated with solar power and deserts can be brought to life. “When vegetation forms, green plants absorb carbon dioxide into the air, reduce its concentration in the atmosphere and help to conserve our Earth.

Longi’s mission is to generate clean energy with clean energy and has been accelerating the use of its highly efficient production capacities in Yunnan and Malaysia since 2015, using almost 100 percent hydropower to produce PV modules.

More than 500 high-ranking representatives of central and local government agencies, companies, institutions, research institutes and industrial associations from business and technology in China and Germany take part in the regular forums and promoted German-Chinese cooperation in the fields of business and technology.
