Longi Solar wins 2018 Solar + Power Award
The Solar + Power awards have been created to recognise the PV value chain and the people, products and services that will develop innovative manufacturing and product approaches that have the potential to change the way we live.
The winning module uses half-cut techniques to reduce the operating current of the cell by half, effectively reducing resistance losses and increasing power by 5 to 10 watts on average. Combined with bifacial technology, front-side power reaches 320 watts (60-cell). Under shaded conditions, Hi-MO3 yields more energy than a full-cell module array. The advantages of Hi-MO3 include lower hot spot temperature at all irradiation levels.
Technology leader for highly efficient PERC modules
“This award recognizes photovoltaic modules with particularly high efficiency that exceeds industry standards. That is why we are particularly honoured to receive this award,” says Wenxue Li, President of LONGi Solar. “We are proud of our innovations that are driven by technology and advances in manufacturing. To remain the technology leader, we invest more than any other PV manufacturer in research and development.”
Highest investments in R&D
In the first half of 2018, the company invested 105 million US dollars in research and development, which is 7.18 percent of the company’s turnover. LONGi employs 500 people in R&D and holds 260 technology patents. The product portfolio includes monocrystalline bifacial modules as well as modules with half-cells and next-generation mono PERC modules employing high-efficiency technologies.
