Mobisol, the Berlin-based provider of remote solar electrification through mobile technology, launches an updated and more efficient version of its system during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Through Mobisol’s innovative approach to electrification in developing countries, clients receive a ready-to-use solar home system and pay for it monthly using their mobile phones. In this way end-users circumvent the problem of high initial investment costs of solar home systems and have a better control over their tariffs.

Version 7 of the system includes a simplified self-installation process, optimized user-friendly operations and easier maintenance procedures. Mobisol's newest system consumes lower amounts of energy while being backed by an even longer-life battery. With V 7, Mobisol has now completed its pilot phase and the system is ready to be introduced to a wider commercial market. Since its creation in 2010, Mobisol has installed 300 units in two pilot projects in Tanzania and Kenya, which confirmed the success and replicability of their business model.

Installation of 10,000 additional systems – V 7 – is planned for 2013 in Tanzania, Kenya and Ghana. Thomas Gottschalk, CEO of Mobisol explains, "We are continuously working on ways to improve our unique system and we’re very excited about the potential of this new version. We want to offer our customers an affordable, durable product that meets the latest technological standards, and at the same time contributes to sustainable development and environmental protection."
