SELFRAG CEO Frédéric von der Weid about the projects: “We are pleased to announce the successful installation and starting of operation of two new high purity-crushing plants in China. The production optimization of mono-silicon Czochralski pulling method requires small size high pure silicon chips. As mechanical crushing reaches its limits concerning throughput, automation, contamination and losses, the new crushing technology is an important contribution for the cost- and quality -sensitive industry. 1 HVP generator can crush up to 10’000 Mt/year dependent on the diameter of the rod and the target particle size.”

The SELFRAG patented silicon crushing process, together with automation and etching solutions provided by SELFRAG partners are offering the customer a fully automated process line. It starts with loading rods produced by Siemens process, crushing these by means of HVP, screening, washing or etching, drying and finally feeding the sized chips or chunks straight into plastic bags. This dust free process provides the opportunity to convert the silicon sizing into a full-digitalized environment (Industry 4.0) and move from a manual process to controllable, automated process. Due to the non-mechanical contact crushing process, the silicon material is crushed into roundish shaped small size chips together with very low surface contamination.
