Ahead of tomorrow's Board meeting STA Chair Jonathan Selwyn said; “The Board is delighted to be joined by three talented and influential individuals who will each bring unique skills and knowledge to the Association at a key moment for the industry. Working closely with the Executive team, the Board has worked hard to position the Association to capture new and emerging opportunities in a difficult domestic market. We are now well placed to support the industry at a time of imminent resurgence in the UK solar market.”
The new Board members are:
Christelle Lawson, UK Country Manager, SolarEdge. Christelle had extensive experience in the UK solar industry before joining SolarEdge, a global leader in smart energy technologies, including PV, storage, EV charging, batteries, UPS, and grid services solutions. SolarEdge developed an intelligent inverter solution that changed the way power is harvested, managed, and monitored in PV systems. SolarEdge is working with the STA and Loughborough University to improve empirical data on domestic solar and battery storage performance.
Chris Clark, Managing Director, Emtec Energy and Chair, STA Scotland. Chris has worked within the commercial construction industry for the last 18 years, primarily as a M&E consultant before creating the renewable energy division of Emtec in 2011. Emtec Energy has delivered some of the largest commercial rooftop frameworks in Scotland, and more recently, delivered award winning battery storage co-location solutions. As Chair of STA Scotland, Chris Clark spearheads policy progress to improve the market in Scotland including securing recent reduced costs and complexity for grid connections for installations up to 200kW.
Dr Jeremy Leggett, Founding Director of Solarcentury. Jeremy is a well-known pioneer in in the UK solar industry. He founded Solarcentury, the largest UK solar developer and installer and which now operates across four continents. An award-winning social entrepreneur, Jeremy also set up and is chair of SolarAid. He is the author of critically acclaimed books on energy and climate including The Winning of The Carbon War.
Jeremy Leggett said: “With analysts increasingly agreeing that the global solar PV market is close to a tipping point, beyond which solar will ascend rapidly to become the single largest energy sector, it is thrilling to be part of a super-experienced team from across the UK industry, fighting for a rightful place for Great Britain in that inspiring narrative of global transition.”
The last STA Board meeting also noted the exceptional contribution of Seb Berry, a very long-standing member of the STA Board, who stood down earlier this year. A veteran of the UK solar industry, Seb played a key role in winning major policy support for the development of the solar industry, including the Feed in Tariff, and is much missed by the STA team and Board.
