WALDEVAR Holding Acquires High-Voltage expert Elemo, Launches WALDEVAR Power Grid as Grid Infrastructure Becomes Europe’s Next Renewable Energy Bottleneck
As Europe accelerates renewable energy deployment, the biggest challenge is no longer building solar parks. It is connecting them to the grid. Against this backdrop, Romanian renewable energy infrastructure group WALDEVAR Holding has completed the acquisition of Elemo, a high and extra-high-voltage infrastructure specialist with more than 30 years of experience, and launched WALDEVAR Power Grid, creating Romania’s first fully integrated renewable energy infrastructure group.
WALDEVAR Holding, a leading provider of turnkey EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) solutions for utility-scale photovoltaic and hybrid energy projects announced the completion of the strategic acquisition of Elemo, a recognized expert with more than 30 years of experience in high and extra-high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Following the acquisition, Elemo will operate under a new brand identity: WALDEVAR Power Grid.
This acquisition marks a paradigm shift in the regional energy sector. Grid connection capacity has become the primary bottleneck for renewable energy projects. By integrating Elemo’s extensive capabilities in the execution of high and extra-high-voltage overhead transmission lines (OHL), including infrastructure exceeding 400 kV, WALDEVAR completes its end-to-end service portfolio. The group now has full control over the entire value chain: engineering, construction, BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) integration, hybridization and, most importantly, connection to Romania’s National Power Grid through its own in-house resources.
The acquisition also strengthens WALDEVAR’s growth trajectory. The Group expects to exceed EUR 200 million in revenue in 2026, with WALDEVAR Power Grid becoming one of its main growth drivers. Building on the momentum of previous years, WALDEVAR anticipates another year of more than 100% growth, supported by rising demand for grid infrastructure across Romania and Europe. With its expanded capabilities, WALDEVAR is now positioned as a true one-stop shop for renewable energy infrastructure, enabling developers to work with a single partner across the entire project lifecycle, from engineering and EPC to grid connection and long-term O&M.
The integration also expands the company’s operational footprint to more than 2,000 in-house specialists and adds a dedicated team of 60 high-voltage engineers and certified line specialists, bringing decades of expertise in transmission and distribution infrastructure into the Group.
To support this expansion, the Group plans further investments in execution teams, specialized high-voltage capabilities and advanced construction technologies, while adding an established portfolio of transmission and distribution projects for major Romanian utilities, including Transelectrica, Delgaz Grid, Distribuție Energie Electrică România and Rețele Electrice.
According to Christian Leonte, CEO of WALDEVAR Holding, the next step is to export WALDEVAR’s integrated execution model beyond Romania. Leveraging WALDEVAR Power Grid’s high-voltage expertise, the Group plans to scale its operations across the European markets where it is already active – Romania, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and France – where it has already delivered or is currently executing more than 3.5 GW of renewable energy projects, before expanding into new markets across Central and South-Eastern Europe. As grid infrastructure constraints continue to slow renewable energy deployment across the continent, WALDEVAR believes its integrated model is built for export.

For renewable energy developers, the integrated model is expected to significantly improve project predictability, Christian Leonte also mentioned. Grid connection has historically been one of the main causes of delays for utility-scale renewable projects. By executing transmission infrastructure and grid connection works entirely with in-house teams, WALDEVAR reduces dependency on third-party contractors, lowering execution risk while improving delivery schedules, financing certainty and overall project bankability.
