The Mexican market for large-scale PV hasn’t never been an easy one. Quite competitive auctions and record low bids dominated the scene from the very beginning of the solar era in Mexico’s energy landscape, with developers and investors being immediately pushed to reduce costs, while opting for highly performant technologies.
Now, after a year an a half under the administration of Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the scenario has become even more complicated, as no more auctions are in sight and the private PPA market still being in its infancy. In a similar context, where no real support is being provided by politics, technology becomes vital. For this reason, our inaugural Roundtables Mexico 2020 will stress the importance of technological improvement of innovative solar module technologies that can help asses projects’ viability or improve installations’ yield in a more difficult market environment.
Bifacial modules transforming the energy landscape
More performant solar products as the bifacial panels present more opportunities than issues, but investors and developers are still struggling to assess gains that can be granted by these products. A specific panel will provide an extensive insight on how bifacial products can be taken advantage of and how which are the most promising technologies available on the market.
Smart tracker design to maximize energy yield
Furthermore, a second panel will focus on how the use of solar trackers may favorably impact the LCOE of large-scale solar parks. On the other hand, the segment in Mexico is traditionally dominated by projects relying on trackers. The related panel will focus on main technology innovations and quality issues within the segment, while analyzing specific aspects of project planning and construction in different environments.
The moderators of the event will be Jorge Zarco, Mexican pv magazine editor, and Emiliano Bellini, editor for Latin America and Global. The two panels will also include experts from the global and Mexican industry.
