The solar park is being planned by UAE-based Phanes Group, in Nurata, in the Navoi region. It will sell electricity at a fixed rate over a 25-year period.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy has revealed plans to launch a new solar tender in early 2021. Separately, the Asian Development Bank signed a deal last week to provide up to $175 million in loans to back the development of another 100 MW solar project in the country.
The PV plant will be deployed in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan by UAE-based developer Masdar.
The 200 MW solar park will be built in Sherabad, in southeastern Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region.
The country’s previous solar target was 4 GW by 2031. Around 1.4 GW of large scale projects are expected to be tendered this year, according to a document published by the Ministry of Energy.
The list of bidders includes companies and consortia from all over the world, suggesting that the procurement of large-scale solar is becoming increasingly competitive at a global level. The 200 MW solar park will be built in Sherabad, in southeastern Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region.
The central Asian nation and the International Finance Corporation are seeking proposals for two 200 MW solar parks planned in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions. The projects will be awarded 25-year power purchase agreements.
The project is part of the 1 GW solar program developed by the government with the support of the Asian Development Bank. The solar park will be in the Surkhandarya province, in the far southeast of the country.
The central Asian nation and the International Finance Corporation have signed a mandate to develop up to 900 MW of solar capacity through public-private partnerships.
Uzbek utility Uzbekenergo had received 23 offers for the 100 MW tendered solar plant. Two more solar tenders, with capacities of 400 MW and 500 MW, respectively, will be launched in the near future.
