The Quebec-based mining company has received financial support to the tune of $1.4 million from the local government to start a pilot production of 50 MT. The production equipment will be installed at the company’s facility in Montreal at a cost of $6.8 million.

Solar rebates granted through the scheme are expected to cover around 30% of the costs of a residential PV project.

The decision was taken by the incoming Ontario premier, Doug Ford. The US$70 million scheme had been conceived to support residential and commercial solar-plus-storage solutions installed under net metering.

Canadian asset management firm, Brookfield and Chinese industrial logistics provider, GLP will install C&I rooftop solar arrays across China under a new joint venture, eventually building out a 1 GW portfolio.

Canada’s second smallest province, Nova Scotia, has announced the launch of the Community Buildings Pilot Program, an initiative that is expected to spur the development of community solar projects throughout the region.

Solar had the largest share in the final procurement round, with PV developers securing 382 of the 390 assigned feed-in tariff (FIT) contracts. Around 35% of the offered contracts are projects in indigenous communities.

With the primary purpose of financing residential PV in Canada’s province of Nova Scotia, the Solar Community Economic Development Investment Fund (CEDIF), dubbed Solar Scotia Energy, has recently met its minimum funding needed to start and to date has raised nearly one million dollars.

The power provider has entered into a partnership with AMP Solar, a Canada-based solar developer, to offer storage solutions for its Ontario customers.

The Canadian province’s first pilot solar park will be built by local hydropower producer and utility Hydro-Quebec. The region is also preparing to support solar distributed generation through net metering.

Rebates can cover up to 30% of the costs for buying and installing a residential or commercial PV system. The program is expected to enable the deployment or around 50 MW of solar capacity.
