The rooftop segment maintained strong growth but utility scale PV saw a slowdown on previous months. In the first four months of 2020, newly deployed PV systems added up to 1,479.5 MW of generation capacity, compared with around 1.6 GW in the same period of last year. The nation’s cumulative PV capacity hit 50.46 GW at the end of April.
In addition to solar subsidy cutbacks of around 20%, planned for the start of 2019, the German Federal Ministry of Economics’ draft Energy Sources Act includes special tenders for PV and onshore wind. While many say the cuts cause great uncertainty for large-scale project developers, politician Peter Altmaier sees it differently: the energy transition is becoming safer and more affordable, he says. The decision to adopt or change the act now lies with the Federal Parliament.
German renewable energy developer has acquired international PV power and storage specialist Belectric for a sum in the double-digit million euro range, company confirms.
Update from SolarPower Europe reveals that the continent installed 1.56 GW in the months from June to September, a 10% decline on Q3 2015. First nine months of the year saw 5.3 GW installed, a decline of 18%.
