Global technology giant Google this week announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase the output from a 10 MW PV installation in Tainan City, Taiwan, to power its Changhua County data center on the island’s west coast. The agreement represents Google’s first move to procure renewable energy anywhere in Asia, and the first agreement made since a recent change to Taiwan’s Electricity Act allowed non-utility companies to buy renewable energy directly.

The two biggest each have a capacity of 150 MW, with smaller plants bringing the total up to 413 MW. The projects are a part of the search engine titan’s effort to supply its annual electricity consumption from renewable sources.

The Internet giant began construction on what will be its fifth datacenter in Europe. The €600 million facility will be powered exclusively by clean energy sources, the company said.

More and more corporations are signing contracts with wind and solar projects, and as this happens the space is becoming broader and more complex.

Search engine giant signs PV supply contract with Eneco, a Dutch energy provider for the supply of power from a 30 MW solar park from where the power will be purchased.

The Sunroof platform is already available in the United States, having launched there in 2015. Thanks to Eon, the platform used by homeowners to assess the solar potential of their roofs will also be online in Germany in the near future.
