The manufacturing facility is planned to be built in Russia’s Astrakhan region thanks to an investment of 1.5 billion RUB (around US$26.5 million).

Longi Solar has upgraded its Indian project, and now aims to establish 1 GW of manufacturing capacity for monocrystalline cells and modules, respectively, at its fab in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The new products for off-grid applications are two thirds lighter than standard modules.

SOMERA series uses PERC monocrystalline solar cells reaching module area efficiency up to 19.05% (for 60 cells) and up to 18.45% (for 72 cells).

Sichuan Yonxiang Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Chinese industrial giants Tongwei, has announced the creation of a joint venture with Longi Green Energy Technology. The joint venture plans to build a new polysilicon production plant in Sichuan Province, China, with an annual capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes.

The Taiwanese solar cell maker has confirmed to pv magazine that it will exit the polycrystalline PV business and will focus on its monocrystalline products. The company intends to gradually lower its polycrystalline PV capacity.

Monocrystalline giant, the Longi Group, will now use the brand for its cell and module business, formerly Lerri Solar. The unified brand will be showcased at the PV Expo in Tokyo, which kicks off on Wednesday.

The German-headquartered solar power company posts year-on-year revenue and shipment increases of 5% and 19%, vows to strengthen competitiveness in 2017 with focus on monocrystalline high-efficiency products. Jobs will be lost along the way, however.
