The state cabinet has approved a 74:26 joint venture proposal by publicly-owned hydropower company THDC India and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency for the ambitious project.

The technology makes up almost 70% of planned clean energy generation capacity in a nation which added just 4 MW of solar last year.

Days after announcing a deal to supply electricity from 326 MW of solar generation capacity, Spanish energy company Iberdrola has secured another long-term power supply contract.

A 42 MW solar park will be built in eastern Germany to generate power for the 16.7 Hz network of German rail operator, Deutsche Bahn. Construction is expected to start once final approvals are received from local authorities.
