JDEnergy commissions 31 MW/75 MWh utility-scale energy storage project in Europe
JDEnergy has commissioned a 31 MW/75 MWh grid-scale energy storage project in Europe after successfully completing full-capacity grid connection tests conducted by the local transmission system operator (TSO). The project is designed to provide fast-response flexibility services, supporting grid balancing and the continued integration of renewable energy into the regional power system.
The installation is based on JDEnergy’s distributed modular BESS architecture and comprises 180 eBlock-418A energy storage units, coordinated through 16 eLink-16C and 16 eLink-16P intelligent energy chain management systems. The modular configuration enables flexible deployment while simplifying system installation, commissioning and long-term operation.
Leveraging this modular architecture, JDEnergy completed the commissioning and passed TSO full-capacity compliance tests within just two days. The accelerated delivery was enabled by JDEnergy’s in-house, full-stack technology, with highly integrated eBlock units and standardized interfaces reducing on-site engineering requirements and simplifying system integration.
Beyond accelerating deployment, the architecture also enables rapid adaptation to project-specific EMS platforms without extensive software customization. Following integration with the customer’s local EMS, the BESS can be efficiently dispatched by local aggregators in accordance with regional grid codes and electricity market requirements. This interoperability allows the system to respond quickly to changing grid conditions and support participation across multiple flexibility applications.
The project’s grid compatibility has also been validated through EN 50549 certification, confirming compliance with European grid connection requirements and demonstrating the system’s interoperability, grid support capabilities and compatibility with local network standards. The certification enables this project to participate in ancillary service markets and wholesale electricity trading across applicable European markets.
Following its successful grid connection, the project will provide a range of flexibility services, including frequency containment and frequency restoration, while also participating in wholesale electricity markets to optimise asset revenues. Through these applications, it enables more efficient grid balancing and creates additional value streams for the project owner.
At the system level, the project provides a fast and precise balancing resource that complements conventional peaking assets such as gas-fired generation. By responding within milliseconds to changes in grid conditions, the system helps accommodate higher shares of variable renewable generation, reduce renewable curtailment and decrease reliance on conventional thermal generation.
The successful commissioning of the 31 MW/75 MWh project demonstrates JDEnergy’s ability to deliver utility-scale battery storage solutions that meet demanding European grid requirements and compressed project timelines.
