HHI to convert to PERL technology

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has said it will convert all its solar cell production to PERL (passivated emitter, rear locally diffused) technology by 2016. It is targeting a capacity of 200 MW, and an efficiency of 21.4%.

South Korean solar PV manufacturer, HHI has said it will convert all its monocrystalline cell production lines to PERL at its facilities in Eumseong, South Korea.
Via the upgrade, scheduled for completion in early 2016, the company says it will manufacture 200 MW of the high efficiency cells, which are said to have reached a conversion rate of 21.4% in independent tests, annually.
“HHI’s PERL solar modules can generate 5 percent more electricity than solar modules made of conventional solar cells,” said the company in a statement released. No further details were shared. pv magazine has contacted HHI for more information.
