Senyuan begins work on 1 GW Chinese solar plant

Senyuan, the parent company of Senyuan Electronics, has begun construction work on the massive solar PV project in Yuzhou, Henan province, middle China. The project requires an investment of CNY 10 billion (around US$1.5 billion), and will occupy an area of over 5,107 acres, when complete. No date has been given for commissioning.

In a separate deal, Senyuan intended to invest CNY 30 billion in the roll out of 3 GW of agro-solar PV projects in Lankao county, Henan province this May. However, the first phase was halted by the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, due to issues with its location on the river bed.

Senyuan additionally signed a contract with Lankao County for another, 3.5 GW, ground-mounted solar PV plant, and a framework agreement with Luoyang City for a 3 GW of PV projects. No details were available on these plans, and the company could not be reached for comment.

Despite Senyuan’s good relationship with the government, it is unlikely such ambitious project sizes will be fully realized. Rather, its plans will be scaled back as it seeks to implement them. It is pursuing opportunities in both nuclear and solar.
