Germany: Schüco sells off thin film production plants

Share

Schüco International has appointed the European operations of auction houses Maynards, Hilco Industrial and Heritage Global Partners to dispose of its photovoltaic thin film assets. The sell-off will involve a series of auctions starting with an online sale of R&D tools and test and measurement equipment on Wednesday, December 19.

Earlier this year, Schüco announced it would permanently close its thin film business, including its 60 MW production sites at Osterweddingen in July, Großröhrsdorf in September, and its R&D center at Bielefeld by the end of the year, thus incurring an €8.6 million bill from Germany's Saxony-Anhalt Ministry.

It is thought 270 employees were affected by the company's exit from thin film production.
