PV Power Chile plans 118 MW of small solar parks

The Solek Group and CarbonFree Chile SpA have signed a framework agreement for the development and construction of up to 118 MW of PV projects in Chile. All of the projects are planned to be developed under Chile’s PMGD Program for distributed generation for renewable energy power generators not exceeding 9 MW in size.

The projects are located within a 250 km radius of Santiago, and the construction of the first ones is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018, with the majority of the portfolio expected to be built in 2019.

The framework agreement defines the development milestones and the construction requirements of the portfolio that will be carried out by Solek, which will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of different plants. To carry out these taks, the company confirms in a statement that it has recently acquired a SunBrush mobile solar cleaning system, which allows the cleaning of up to 3 MWp per day using a hydraulic brush mounted on a John Deere tractor.

For its part, CarbonFree has the support of Canadian investors and more than 85 solar projects totaling more than 400 MW in three countries. In addition to its portfolio with the Solek Group, CarbonFree has more than 30 MW of PMGD projects operating or under construction in Chile and a portfolio of more than 100 MW under development.

At the end of July, PV Power Chile reported that it had submitted the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for two new PMGD projects in Chile: the Parque Solar Los Paltos and El Paso projects, which are now under evaluation by the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA).
