The European solar energy association SolarPower Europe has appointed Walburga Hemetsberger as its new CEO. According to the association, she has amassed an impressive knowledge of European energy policy, as well as an influential network, via her professional experience.
Over the past 10 years, Hemetsberger has been both head of the EU Representation Office of Austrian energy company Verbund AG, and a board member of Hydrogen Europe in charge of Energy Transition Solutions. Previously, she was an advisor for financial and capital markets regulation for the German, and the European, Association of Public Banks (VÖB/EAPB), and a competition lawyer for law firm Haarmann Hemmelrath.
“Her knowledge of renewable energies and competition policy is also a huge asset that will stand our association in good stead,” said SolarPower Europe president, Christian Westermeier.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to build on the success of my predecessor, James Watson, and work in this innovative clean energy sector, which is at the forefront of building a new low carbon economy in Europe,” added Hemetsberger.
