Entering the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in 1993, PD Dr. Ralf Preu is director of the Division Photovoltaics with a focus on production technology and industry transfer. He studied physics at the Universities of Freiburg and Toronto and economy at the University of Hagen; he received his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Hagen in 2000. He has been teaching photovoltaics at the University of Freiburg since 2008 and habilitated in 2023. He has published more than 300 papers at scientific journals and international conferences and has been a contributor and chair for committees in the field of PV Research & Development (2026: ETIP Chair of WG PV Technology, FNEE PV Spokesman WG Production, EU PVSEC Topic Chair PV Module). He is a co-inventor of 30 patent families. Ralf Preu received the Meyer-Struckmann Award in 2003, the Innovation Award in Laser Technology in 2014 and Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize in 2016 for his work in the PV technology field.
