The government has proposed the target of constructing 12 GW PV systems till 2030. Despite this, the topic of solar energy is quite new here. In order to support investors and EPC contractors in Vietnam to understand the major challenges of financing solar power projects and how the improvements of technology can help to ensure bankability.

A Technical Workshop with main topic “How to Ensure Bankability of Solar Power Projects in Vietnam” was held on Marth 26 in Nha Trang, sponsored by Huawei FusionSolar, as a part of the Vietnam Renewable Energy Summit 2018.

During this workshop, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dung from Power Engineering Consulting No.3 JSC (PECC3) mentioned that 17 GW has been registered for development up to now. However, the existing largest solar PV is only 1.40 MWp.

In the face of technical and financial barriers for solar PV development and impacts of Decision No.11, PECC3 recommends investors and contractors to start with small capacity and avoid crowded areas to ensure the project success on time. Moreover, in order to make maximum profit (minimum cost and maximum revenue), four factors should be taken into consideration: select a location, choice of technology, plant design and O&M soluiton.

As a specialist in solar technology, Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution can help to satisfy the last three factors above. Mr. Shawn Zhuang, Country Director from Huawei Smart PV Business introduced “How to Ensure Project IRR with the Right Technologies”. FusionSolar’s mission is to provide the lower LCOE and reliable solution for 25-year lifespan PV plants in the complicated environment like highland and salt-mist & humidity in Vietnam.

Huawei provides higher yields, smart O&M, safe & reliable FusionSolar Smart PV Solution because of fully digitalized with high accuracy sensor & speedy data transition, simplified system with easy design & quick installation & reliable, simplified commercial & service interface with one-stop solution, extra benefits in 25 years, IRR > 3%.

Furthermore, Huawei SUN2000-65KTL-M0 (1100V) and SUN2000-90KTL-H1 (1500V) inverter for Vietnam solar market have cutting-edge characters as below, ensure the maximum profit of the PV plant.

  • Multi-MPPT, string-level management & optimization
  • Higher EU efficiency, up to 98.8%
  • Much lower self-consumption, yields increased by up to 0.8%
  • Smart O&M, saving OPEX
  • Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis, Online Inspection on All Strings
  • Huawei Reliability Test Criterion Higher than Industrial Standard
  • TUV Verification on > 99.996% High Availability of Smart PV Solution

After this, Mr. Gary Zieff, Principal Energy Advisor from USAID V-LEEP made the presentation about Key Bankability Requirements for PV Projects; Mr. Tony Wong, Regional Manager of SEA and Ms. Chen Min, Chief Risk Officer from China Construction Bank introduced the Credit Insurance and Financing Solutions for Power Projects. These presentations impressed the attendees.

During the second day of the Vietnam Renewable Energy Summit 2018, Dr. Yunfeng Liu, Chief Scientist of Huawei Smart PV Business, spoke about “Trends for Energy Interconnection of Large Scale PV Plant with the Grid” in front of more than 200 investors and EPC contractors. Dr. Liu shared his opinion about the digital trends of solar technology. Huawei’s vision and mission is to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.

Huawei is always willing to work with partners in both upstream and downstream of the solar industry to establish an industry landmark by building an open, collaborative, and win-win PV eco-system, while continuously creating more value and better experiences for its customers in Vietnam.
