HyperStrong Secures MyBeST 440MWh BESS Project in Malaysia
The project is among the first awarded under the Malaysia Battery Energy Storage Programme (MyBeST), a national initiative launched by Malaysia’s Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga, ST) to accelerate utility-scale battery energy storage deployment and support the implementation of the country’s National Energy Transition Roadmap.
As one of Malaysia’s landmark utility-scale standalone BESS projects, the MyBeST Pekan project is designed to enhance grid flexibility and reliability amid the rapid growth of renewable energy integration. Upon completion, the project will provide critical grid services, including peak shaving, frequency regulation, and system balancing, helping strengthen grid stability and support Malaysia’s long-term energy transition goals.
The project also marks a significant milestone in HyperStrong’s expansion across Southeast Asia. The collaboration demonstrates HyperStrong’s ability to meet Malaysia’s technical and environmental requirements for utility-scale energy storage projects, including long-term stable operation under tropical high-temperature, high-humidity, and high-salinity conditions.
Malaysia is widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s key energy markets, with regional influence on renewable energy development and grid modernization policies. The completion of the MyBeST Pekan project is expected to provide an important reference for future energy storage deployments across Southeast Asia.
The collaboration with leading local players further strengthens HyperStrong’s localization strategy in Southeast Asia. ERS brings extensive experience in renewable energy project development, while Gamuda contributes regional strengths in large-scale infrastructure construction and project execution. Together, the three parties will work to support the high-quality delivery of the project.
By combining HyperStrong’s advanced energy storage technologies and system integration expertise with ERS’s expertise in renewable energy and Gamuda’s infrastructure strengths, the partnership establishes a scalable and localized collaboration model for future regional growth.
Looking ahead, HyperStrong will continue advancing energy storage innovation and high-quality project deployment to support greater grid flexibility and renewable energy integration across Southeast Asia, contributing to the region’s energy transition and low-carbon development.
