ISC Konstanz appoints Dr. Gerhard Mathiak as Head of Module Department
Following the departure of Andreas Halm at the end of 2025, leadership of the department had been shared on an interim basis by Dr. Kristian Peter and Tobias Meßmer. ISC Konstanz would like to thank both colleagues for their outstanding commitment during this transition.
Dr. Mathiak joins ISC Konstanz after holding leading positions at DEWA Research & Development Center in Dubai, TÜV Rheinland, Q-Cells and Evergreen Solar. Throughout his career he has led international R&D programs, supported industrial technology transfer, developed advanced reliability testing methods and contributed to international IEC standardization activities.
“We are delighted to welcome Gerhard Mathiak to ISC Konstanz. His unique combination of scientific expertise, industrial experience and international network perfectly matches our strategy of accelerating technology transfer from research into manufacturing,” says Dr. Radovan Kopecek, Managing Director of ISC Konstanz.
ISC Konstanz has significantly expanded its research infrastructure over the past year through new laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment. Building on this foundation, the institute aims to strengthen industrial partnerships even further through collaborative R&D projects, manufacturing ramp-up support, module reliability programs and technology transfer activities alongside its publicly funded research.
“Photovoltaics is evolving at an incredible pace. I am excited to join ISC Konstanz and contribute to bringing cutting-edge module technologies more rapidly from research to industrial application worldwide,” says Dr. Gerhard Mathiak.
The appointment reflects ISC Konstanz’s strategic ambition to combine scientific excellence with practical industrial implementation and to further strengthen Europe’s photovoltaic innovation ecosystem.
“With our new laboratory, we now have one of the most advanced research infrastructures in Europe. We are now specifically strengthening our team with people who understand both research and industrial implementation. Gerhard Mathiak brings exactly this kind of experience to the table,” says Dr. Kristian Peter, Chairman of the Board of ISC Konstanz.
Dr. Gerhard Mathiak adds, “ISC Konstanz enjoys an excellent international reputation for application-oriented photovoltaic research. I am particularly excited by the opportunity to work with industry partners to bring new technologies to production more quickly and thereby directly support the energy transition.”
