Solar Power UK: Power-One to present micro-inverters and utility-scale inverters for the UK market

Inverter solutions for small residential applications as well as large utility-scale solar parks will not only be the highlight at Power-One’s booth B40, but will also be subject of two presentations the company will be hosting at the accompanying conference. At the “Practical Large Scale PV” area, of which Power-One is one of the sponsors, it will demonstrate how the energy harvesting in large-scale solar installations can be maximised with the right inverter solution. The company’s presentation “Inverters for large scale – products and possibilities” will take place on Thursday, October 4 at 10:40 a.m.

Power-One’s second presentation “Inverters for domestic roofs – micro-inverters versus string inverters” will address PV inverter solutions for the residential sector. On Wednesday, October 3 at 4:20 p.m., the company will compare the advantages and disadvantages of both solutions and will give plant designers and installers practical advice on how to choose the perfect inverter for their specific needs.

“Due to the new feed-in tariff regulations, the UK solar market has experienced some major challenges in the last months. However, the changes also opened up new market segments. For example, the large-scale PV sector with up to and over 5MW is reviving as a consequence of the declining PV component prices and the new Renewable Obligation,” said David Lowen, Director of Sales for Western Europe Renewable Energy at Power-One.

“Moreover, the market for micro-inverters and power optimizers also offers great potential in the UK. According to a recent study by IMS Research, the UK will on the one hand continue to support a healthy residential and small commercial sector. On the other hand, the analysts expect module inverter solutions, which are ideally suited for small residential installations, to amount for one fourth of the total market share by 2016.”

AURORA ULTRA-700, AURORA ULTRA-1050 and AURORA ULTRA-1400

With an output of up to 1.5MW, Power-One’s ULTRA-1400 is the largest solar power inverter currently available in the Power-One AURORA product range. Power-One’s improved AURORA MICRO-0.25-I and AURORA MICRO-0.3-I micro-inverters offer several advantages, including increased efficiency ratings of up to 96.5 percent, which is one of the best in this class. Furthermore, a broader input voltage range and an extended MPP DC voltage range give installers more design flexibility, since the AURORA MICRO devices can be deployed with PV modules of different make and performance. Thanks to a robust IP65 enclosure, an HF isolation and electrolyte-free capacitors, the product is ideally suited for unrestricted use under any environmental conditions and benefits from an increased product lifetime and long term reliability.

By minimizing efficiency losses from partial or temporary shading, panel mismatching or module aging, the AURORA MICRO module inverters offer an alternative to traditional string inverters.
