How to protect BESS to increase reliability and maximize return on investments

Electrical overcurrent, ground faults, arc-flash, and transient overvoltage are major concerns for battery energy storage system (BESS) operators and owners. To protect the system and extend the life of the equipment, a comprehensive circuit protection strategy is necessary. But selecting and implementing an appropriate one is no easy business. In this pv magazine Webinar, we will be exploring key components of the battery energy storage system, understand different types of architecture, learn how to design in safety with circuit protection, and discover real-world examples utilizing circuit protection to increase reliability, system efficiencies, and ROI.

As BESS integrators scramble to offer ever more powerful lithium-ion systems, packaging more energy in a more compact footprint is opening a Pandora box of safety questions. With higher power levels, comes more responsibility and circuit protection becomes increasingly important.

Specifically, electric overcurrent, ground faults, arc-flash, and transient overvoltage are major concerns for BESS operators and owners. As a result, they are seeking guidance in selecting and implementing appropriate circuit protection strategies.

A comprehensive circuit protection strategy can help avoid costly service interruptions and improve uptime. What is more, it can help protect workers who install and maintain the BESS, as well as prevent any equipment damage.

In this pv magazine Webinar, we will be exploring key components of the battery energy storage system, understand different types of architecture, learn how to design in safety with circuit protection, and discover real-world examples utilizing circuit protection to increase reliability, system efficiencies, and ROI.

Joining us for discussion and insights is Immanuel Umenei, senior global segment manager, renewable energy, at Littelfuse, a US-based global manufacturer of state-of-the-art technologies in circuit protection, power control, and sensing.
