First Solar and SCE sign 250 MW PV contract

According to developer First Solar, if approved by the California Public Utilities Commission, the ground-mounted project will be located near Primm in Nevada, on around roughly 2,500 acres of public land. It is expected to interconnect with SCE’s proposed Eldorado-Ivanpah 220-kilovolt transmission line.

It is hoped the project will begin producing electricity by 2014, and be fully operational in 2017. Around 300 construction jobs are expected to be created, and the solar panels will reportedly be recycled after use.

"This agreement represents another important milestone toward our goal of grid parity," stated Frank De Rosa, First Solar senior vice president of North American Project Development.
