Aleo passes 1 GW module mark; insecure about market development

The German manufacturer, which succeeds S.M.D Solar-Manufaktur Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, first began module production on 2002.

Annual capacity has been significantly ramped up from the initial 15 megawatts (MW). A spokesperson for the company tells pv magazine that by the end of this year, 390 MW will be reached. Further expansion plans are not, however, yet on the cards.

In relation to the current market, the spokesperson says that development in Germany, in particular, is behind their expectations this year. As such, they are "insecure" about the way forward.

Overall, aleo has established three manufacturing sites and nine sales offices worldwide. In February, Bosch, which became Aleo’s main shareholder two years ago, purchased additional shares, meaning it held an 82 percent stake in the company.

In related news, just last week, Suntech announced it had passed the five GW milestone.
