Laytec will supply a multi station inspection system to provide precise measurements of cell structures produced on the line. According to Laytec, all key layers of the solar cell structure are monitored regarding production quality and yield.
The equipment will be installed as part of an 80 MW fab being developed in China by CTF Solar. CTF Solar is a wholly owned company of CTIEC, which in turn is a part of China National Building Materials Group (CNBM).
“Laytec is honored that a global leading company such as CNBM, with global recognition of manufacturing front glass solar panels, is choosing Laytec’s advanced inspection systems to deliver the highest quality,” says Tom Thieme, Laytec’s Director of Marketing and Sales. “This decision supports the ongoing transition to move from quantity to manufacture sustainable PV cell quality. Process knowledge here is the key to success.”
CNBM is one of several Chinese manufacturers currently moving into thin film production. As well as this CdS/CdTe facility in Chengdu, the company has ordered equipment for two CIGS production facilities also under construction in China. CNBM also has plans to produce plans to build up to 25,000 new homes featuring integrated PV solutions in the UK.
“CNBM has the highest demands on quality and yield for our new CdS/CdTe fab in Chengdu,” says CTF Solar CEO Michael Harr. “Laytec’s market leading technology for inline inspection is essential for these high demands.”
