Chinese manufacturer of display devices and solar glass, Irico Group has started production activities at its new PV glass manufacturing facility in Yan’an City, Shaanxi Province, in central China.
The company said that the CNY 750 million (US$113.6 million) factory is based on a single oxygen-fuel, ultra-clear and high-transmittance solar PV raw glass production line, with a daily melting capacity of 850 tonnes.
Annual production, Irico said, is expected to reach 26 million square meters of coated and tempered glass, which would be enough to satisfy the manufacturing of approximately 3.7 GW of modules. The line is said to be compatible with the production of 2.0–2.5mm PV glass used for glass-glass modules, which are the most common products in the market.
Irico also owns and operates another solar glass factory in Hefei City, Anhui Province. This manufacturing facility is based on a 800t/d oxygen-fuel combustion PV glass furnace, with an annual production capacity of approximately 47 million square meters.

The company is further planning to open a 2 GW solar module factory in China. In its financial results for 2017, it said it had secured a 30% equity interest in Zhangjiagang-based Jiangsu Yongneng, and obtained control over its operation.
“The acquisition has extended the Group’s photovoltaic business chain and enabled the Group to leverage on the platform of Jiangsu Yongneng for preparing the construction of a high-efficiency photovoltaic module project with an annual output of 2GW, thereby further enhancing the comprehensive strengths of the Group,” Irico said at the time.
As for its solar glass business, the group said it experienced robust growth last year, while demonstrating “favourable momentum”.
