Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has opened the second mixed auction for large-scale onshore wind and solar power projects. Bids for the auction, where around 200 MW of renewable energy capacity will be assigned, can be submitted until November 2nd, 2018, the agency said in a statement.
As in the first auction, solar projects planned for areas with a high concentration of other renewable energy power plants will see their bids increase by between €0.08/kWh and €0.88/kWh, and will, thus, have less chance to be among the winning projects. Around 98 regions with too much renewable energy capacity in operation and no more grid capacity have also been identified by the Bundesnetzagentur.
As for onshore wind power projects to be located in these areas, bids will increase from €0.07/kWh to €0.58/kWh. These additional costs are said to be necessary for network and system integration for the renewables, the agency explained. It added that, in case projects located in these areas will be ultimately selected, they will receive the original offered tariff without the additional amount.

The ceiling price for both technologies will be €0.875/kWh. In the southern regions of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, moreover, bids may be submitted for PV projects on less favored green and arable land.
In the first auction of this kind, concluded in early April, solar won all of the allocated capacity, which was around 210 MW. In total, the Federal Network Agency awarded 32 PV projects with an average bid price of €0.0467/kWh. Bids from successful developers ranged from €0.0396 per kWh to €0.0576 per kWh.
