HiTHIUM gave a detailed technical overview of its 6.9 MWh eight-hour LDES system at The smarter E Europe exhibition in Munich. This presentation marks the product’s official debut in Europe and illustrates HiTHIUM‘s long-term focus on long duration technologies. The company sees LDES as an increasingly important enabler of renewable energy integration, grid resilience and energy security.

Designed for eight-hour applications and capable of delivering more than 10,000 cycles, the ∞Power 6.9 MWh represents a step beyond today’s mainstream two- to four-hour battery systems, providing greater operational flexibility and improved certainty for grid operators, asset owners and developers. As European countries continue investing in long-duration energy storage to shift renewable energy beyond peak generation hours and strengthen grid resilience, HiTHIUM believes native eight-hour LDES will play an increasingly important role in supporting the region’s energy transition.

In Munich, the company highlighted the advantages its LDES technology can provide for the European market, particularly as the region adds more AI data centers and intermittent renewable generation sources to its already overburdened electricity grids. LDES should become a “key foundation” for ensuring security of clean electricity supply and therefore lowering energy costs and flattening the so-called “duck curve” in Europe, HiTHIUM believes.

HiTHIUM positions the system as the world’s first native eight-hour long-duration energy storage solution, designed from cell to system specifically for eight-hour long-duration applications.

At the heart of the ∞Power 6.9 MWh platform is HiTHIUM’s proprietary 1,300 Ah lithium-ion battery cell, purpose-built for eight-hour applications. Compared with conventional cell platforms, the larger-format cell significantly reduces the number of battery cells required, simplifying system architecture while improving reliability, safety and lifecycle economics. Housed in a standard 20-foot container, the system is designed for deployment in all weather conditions, with an operational lifetime of more than 25 years.

HiTHIUM also offers a turnkey solution. Each standard unit integrates one medium-voltage module with eight 6.9 MWh battery storage modules, providing 6.9 MW/55.2 MWh in a highly integrated configuration. Integrating battery storage, PCS, transformers, and EMS within a standardized platform, the solution simplifies project design and deployment while remaining compatible with leading global PCS and EMS suppliers. It also supports side-by-side and back-to-back deployment, making it suitable for projects where land use and construction costs are a constraint.

Safety and sustainability are integrated throughout the system design. HiTHIUM’s multi-layer protection and intelligent BESS management promises intrinsic safety at the cell level, alongside active and passive protections integrated into the container. The system also incorporates low-GWP coolant, leakage-prevention design, and recyclable structural components to reduce environmental impact throughout its lifecycle.

With the European debut of the ∞Power 6.9 MWh platform, HiTHIUM aims to bring its native eight-hour LDES technology to a market where longer-duration storage is expected to play an increasingly important role in accelerating the continent’s energy transition.
