Poland to offer building permit exemptions for PV systems up to 150 kW
Amendments to Poland’s renewable energy laws will go into effect in October, permitting the installation of solar systems up to 150 kW in size, without the need for building permits. Piotr Pająk, a local PV analyst, says the changes will support investments in rooftop solar projects.

Ireland allocates 497 MW of PV in third renewables auction
Ireland’s Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and network operator EirGrid has revealed the 20 solar projects totaling 497 MW that were provisionally selected in the latest auction round of the country’s onshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS). The procurement exercise concluded with an average strike price of €0.10047($0.10596)/kWh.

SolarPower Europe predicts 1 million solar workers in EU by 2025
SolarPower Europe said in its latest report on EU solar jobs that the European solar industry employed 648,000 people at the end of 2022, up from 466,000 the year prior. It said the sector will reach 1 million full-time employees within three years.

GoodWe finalizes 10.9 MW solar plant in Malaysia
Chinese solar inverter and battery producer GoodWe has completed the construction of the 10.95 MW Solar Citra Project in Malaysia, with Apricum senior advisor Moritz Sticher telling pv magazine that although the scale of the plant is ‘small’ every project in the Southeast Asian country counts.

UK may rejoin GW club this year
Recent data published by Great Britain’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) show the country’s solar PV cumulative capacity was 15,292.8 MW at the end of July, with newly installed capacity for the first seven months of this year reaching 643 MW. Although Gareth Simkins of Solar Energy UK said these figures were ‘relatively low’, he explained that several utility scale PV plants may have not been included in the statistics so far and there was cause for optimism.

Alight to build 100 MW solar plant in Finland
Swedish solar developer Alight says it will enter the Finnish PV market for the first time early next year with a 100 MW ground-mounted solar park in Eurajoki. Alight COO Warren Campbell tells pv magazine that the array will be a ‘big project by Finnish standards.’

South Africa streamlines 203 MW of wind-solar-storage hybrid projects
The South African authorities awarded project agreements to two wind-solar-storage hybrid projects that were selected in a 2 GW tech-neutral tender held under the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP) in 2021.
