Scaling up in Brazil
The 752 MW (AC) Assú Sol solar complex in northeastern Brazil is the largest operational PV project in multinational energy company Engie’s global portfolio. Europe’s solar resource surplus continues before late-August cloud shift
In a new weekly update for pv magazine, Solcast, a DNV company, reports that Europe’s solar irradiance averaged 5% above the 2007–2025 norm in August 2026, with nearly three-quarters of the continent seeing above-average levels due to persistent high pressure and clear skies. Conditions shifted later in the month as cooler, cloudier weather reduced gains in western Europe, while central and eastern regions retained much of their irradiance surplus.
Ireland’s PV capacity reaches 3 GW
“With continued investment in solar – across homes, farms, businesses and large grid-scale projects – Ireland is building a growing source of homegrown, clean electricity, and strengthening our energy security,” said Ireland’s Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien following the milestone.
Sungrow breaks ground on 10 GWh battery storage factory in Egypt
Sungrow has begun construction of a $50 million BESS factory in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, targeting 10 GWh of annual production and an April 2027 start. The facility will supply Egypt’s growing storage market, including Scatec’s Energy Valley project, while strengthening Sungrow’s localized manufacturing presence across the Middle East and Africa.

Quantum and Asola sign MOU to build 30 MW solar manufacturing facility in Ontario
Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. has announced that its German affiliate Asola has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a joint venture 30 megawatt (MW) solar manufacturing plant in Ontario, Canada, to enable the production and distribution of solar modules in Canada. The Canadian partner is Evergreen Power Ltd.

Egypt unveils plans for 100 MW solar power plant
The Egyptian electricity ministry has unveiled plans to build a new $700 million 100 megawatt (MW) solar power plant between 2012 and 2017 that should further establish the country as one of the leading developers of utility-scale solar plants, reports Reuters.

STR Holdings, Inc. has announced that the one gigawatt (GW) expansion of its Malaysian plant has become operational, in order to meet growing global market demand. ib vogt secures first order in India; establishes first PV factory for Indian multinational
Germany-based ib vogt has been commissioned to undertake the factory design, planning and construction management for an Indian multinational company to build its first photovoltaics (PV) factory in Southern India. The project has been running from the beginning of this April 2010 and is expected to reach completion by the end of next June.
Clear Skies and GS Investor to develop 10 MW of solar projects in New Jersey, U.S.
Clear Skies Solar, Inc. (CSS) and New Jersey commercial developer, GS Investor have reached an agreement to deliver 10 megawatts (MW) of solar energy projects in New Jersey, the U.S. over the next 12 months. CSS estimates the agreement to be worth over USD$20 million.
