Pasan supports first solar powered circumnavigation

Share

Pasan, a Meyer Burger Group Member, supports the venture as a scientific partner.?? PlanetSolar is a concentration of technologies. The 31 m long Catamaran is powered by 540 m2 of solar panels from Sunpower. It will be the first round-the-world powered solely with solar energy.

Raphaël Domjan, the project’s promoter said: “Our project is to resolutely serve humanity and the environment to overtake the possibilities of fossil fuels, called classical energies.”? ?

The ship will start from Monaco for a 50,000 km round-the-world trip scheduled to take about eight months. It will make several stopovers in major cities, in order to promote the PV technology.?

?One of the main challenges is the overall power management. Beside the power generation itself through high efficient solar modules, the route has to be optimized in order to take solar radiation, currents, waves and power storage into account.

The software which has been developed requires a detailed characterization of the solar modules, under different irradiances and temperatures.? ?Pasan, as a scientific partner of the project, enables this advanced performance characterization of the high efficient solar modules with its outstanding know-how in PV Measurement.? ?

The Meyer Burger Group, via its subsidiaries Pasan SA, is very happy to support PlanetSolar and their photovoltaic promotional activities and wishes Raphaël Domjan and his team a successful world premiere.
