The islands of the Caribbean have been focusing on the deployment of storage solutions, minigrids and microgrids in response to the damage their power systems suffered during the 2017 hurricane season. But with the opportunities, there are also challenges.

The new rules, now published in the country’s official journal, will enable owners of PV and renewable energy power generators to sell excess power to the local distributors.

While the grid operator Enatrel conducts a feasibility study for solar distributed generation projects, the president Daniel Ortega urges the Parliament to approve the reform of the energy system which will introduce net metering for PV.

The government of the Central American country has approved the new reference price band for the new contracts for power generation from renewable sources.

The facility, located in Puerto Sandino, is one of the country’s largest PV plants. Modules provided by Recom were installed at the plant.
