Partial U.S. eclipse produced similar daily solar energy losses to higher-obscuration European locations
In a new weekly update for pv magazine, Solcast, a DNV company, reports that the Aug. 12 solar eclipse caused highly variable irradiance losses across Europe and North America, shaped by obscuration, cloud cover, and the timing of the eclipse.
However, eclipse-related power-market impacts varied much more, showing that irradiance loss or obscuration alone is not a reliable predictor of electricity-price effects.

India on track for record 50 GW of solar installations in 2026
India is on track to install a record 50 GW of solar capacity in 2026, driven by a rush to meet the ALMM-II deadline despite emerging cell supply constraints. Wood Mackenzie expects the resulting supply crunch to push system prices higher through 2027, while greater domestic manufacturing capacity gradually eases pressure.
Trina Solar launches typhoon-resistant PV modules rated up to 8,000 Pa
Trina Solar has introduced typhoon-resistant PV modules with mechanical load ratings of up to 8,000 Pa, targeting solar projects in regions exposed to extreme winds.
The new range combines reinforced module frames and glass with self-locking mounting clamps and automated tracker stow strategies designed to improve resilience during severe weather.
