Solargiga completes 1 GW module production increase

The Chinese solar equipment manufacturer says it has successfully ramped up its PV module line to a total annual output of 2.2 GW, and upgraded 150 MW of existing capacity to produce monocrystalline n-type IBC cell BS modules.

At the start of September, Solargiga confirmed its earlier profit warning of H1 2018 losses.

Solargiga Energy Holdings Limited’s subsidiary, Jinzhou Chuanghui New Energy, has added 1 GW of new PV module manufacturing capacity, thus bringing total capacity to 2.2 GW.

It first announced the CNY 160 million (US$25.2 million) expansion at the start of this March. The new lines were added to its existing facilities in China.

150 MW of existing module capacity has also been upgraded to produce monocrystalline n-type IBC cell BS modules. The main customer for these is Japan-based Sharp Corporation. Solargiga says operations on the new line should start in Q4 2018, while mass production is scheduled to begin in 2019.

“Currently, most of the PV modules of the Sharp brand in the world are manufactured by Solargiga. The additional shipment of this new high-end monocrystalline N-type IBC cell BS modules will strengthen the cooperation between the two parties. It is expected that the Group’s overseas shipments will further increase,” said the manufacturer in a statement released.

At the start of September, Solargiga confirmed its earlier profit warning of H1 2018 losses totaling $15 million – despite a 4% year on year rise in shipments – to 1,207 MW, and compared to the $14.6 million profit it reaped in H1 2017.
