AfDB dashboard to track Africa’s electrification progress

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has launched the Mission 300 Progress Tracker, a public platform designed to monitor, in real time, progress toward expanding electricity access across Africa.

The dashboard, called MapAfrica, enables users to track projects supported under the Mission 300 initiative, which is being jointly implemented with the World Bank.

Mission 300 aims to connect an additional 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030 through grid expansion projects, mini-grids and decentralized solar solutions. 

MapAfrica currently lists 74 active projects across several African countries. These projects have already provided electricity access to 5.2 million people, with an additional 35 million beneficiaries expected in the coming years.

Among the countries prioritized by the program are Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Niger, Chad, Mauritania, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The CLSG (Côte d’Ivoire–Liberia–Sierra Leone–Guinea) Interconnection Project is also being tracked by the platform. According to the dashboard, it has already helped extend electricity access to more than 6,994 households.

Mission 300 places strong emphasis on rural electrification and decentralized renewable energy solutions, which are considered essential for accelerating energy access in areas located far from the main grid. According to AfDB and World Bank, more than 50 million people have already benefited from projects supported under the initiative since its launch.

The dashboard is publicly accessible and will be updated regularly to improve transparency regarding the progress of energy projects across Africa.
