Ingeteam announces central inverter for utility-scale BESS
Spanish inverter manufacturer Ingeteam has unveiled the Ingecon Sun Storage M Series, a new modular central inverter for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) with power ratings of up to 4.54 MVA. It supports a battery voltage range of up to 1,500 Vdc without derating.
“The inverter is designed to operate in both grid-following and grid-forming modes, offering the flexibility needed to meet various plant management models and grid requirements, as well as providing grid services mandated by grid operators—such as frequency regulation and synthetic inertia,” the company said in a statement.
The product series comprises two product lines: the standalone Ingecon Sun Storage 3Power M Series modular central inverter, rated up to 4.54 MVA; and the Ingecon Sun Storage PowerStation FSK M Series, a skid-mounted medium-voltage solution. It integrates the inverter with a transformer, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment in configurations up to 9.08 MVA.
As for the 3Power M Series, its modular architecture scales from a single 1.14 MVA power module up to a combined 4.54 MVA configuration, achieving a power density of 488kW/m3. It can reportedly deliver a maximum efficiency of 98.9% and a European efficiency of 98.5%. All power electronics, protections, and busbars are housed in a sealed IP65-rated compartment featuring corrosion protection, stainless steel components, and a secondary water-air heat exchanger.
The FSK M Series up to two back-to-back storage inverters containing a maximum of 8 integrated power modules. It is available in four model variants, ranging from the 3,410 FSK model with three modules and 3,406 kVA of power output to the flagship 9,100 FSK model with eight modules, delivering up to 9,080 kVA of continuous charging and discharging power at 40 C.
“A key feature of the new series is its modular structure, which offers significant advantages for the design and management of utility-scale storage plants,” the company added. “This modularity improves overall system availability, simplifies operation and maintenance (O&M) activities, and reduces operational risks throughout the plant’s lifecycle. Furthermore, the design enables optimized battery connection, maximizing power output with fewer units and facilitating adaptation to diverse plant configurations.”
Both inverters measure 5.2 m × 0.9 m × 2.2 m and feature an IP65 enclosure with C5M corrosion protection. They operate at ambient temperatures from -20 C to 60 C, or down to -40 C with an optional heating kit, and can be installed at elevations of up to 4,500 m. The skid-mounted products measure up to 11.39 m in length and weigh between 11 t and 30 t, depending on the configuration.
