Uzbekistan has now 2.5 GW of solar under net metering

Uzbekistan added 509.7 MW of PV capacity under its Solar House net metering scheme in the first eight months of 2026.

Uzbekistan deployed 2,508 MW of PV capacity under its Solar House net metering scheme between April 2023 and August 2026, according to the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.

The Solar House program was introduced in April 2023 to encourage households to install solar arrays of up to 50 kW. Under the scheme, residential prosumers receive a state subsidy of UZS 1,000 ($0.08)/kWh for surplus electricity supplied to the grid.

The subsidy is calculated monthly based on the positive difference between electricity exported to and imported from the grid, with payments made to participants through a dedicated mobile app. Households whose monthly exports exceed consumption do not pay an electricity bill for that month.

Newly installed PV capacity under the scheme reached 509.7 MW in the first eight months of 2026.

Based on the current pace of deployment, the government expects 700 MW of new capacity to be commissioned in 2026, exceeding its annual target by 300 MW. This would bring Uzbekistan’s total installed small-scale solar capacity to 2.7 GW by the end of the year.

The Uzbek government is targeting 25 GW of combined solar and wind capacity by 2030.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Uzbekistan’s cumulative installed PV capacity stood at 5.93 GW at the end of 2025.
