Rhoss launches propane heat pumps for multi-family residential applications

The Italian manufacturer has expanded its MidiPACK-PI R290 heat pump range with four new models offering heating capacities of 38.2 kW to 64.7 kW and cooling capacities of 34.6 kW to 60.3 kW. The units have a reported SCOP of 3.34 to 3.50 and can produce water at temperatures of up to 80 C.

Italian heat pump manufacturer Rhoss has expanded its MidiPACK-PI range of reversible air-to-water heat pumps with two new sizes using propane (R290) as the refrigerant.

The company said the new models are intended to extend the application range of the product line, providing higher capacities for larger residential and light-commercial installations. They complement the smaller MidiPACK-PI THAITP 120÷135 series, which covers cooling capacities from 18.7 kW to 28.9 kW and heating capacities from 20.8 kW to 34.9 kW.

The new MidiPACK-PI TCAITP-THAITP 139÷165 series comprises four models, with nominal cooling capacities ranging from 34.6 kW to 60.3 kW and heating capacities from 38.2 kW to 64.7 kW, according to Rhoss.

The units have dimensions of 2,320 mm x 1,550 mm x 1,000 mm. They can reportedly produce water at temperatures of up to 80 C and operate for hot-water production with outdoor air temperatures ranging from -20 C to 40 C.

The manufacturer reports a seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of between 3.34 and 3.50 for the four models, with sound power levels ranging from 79 dB(A) to 81 dB(A). The largest models have a nominal heating capacity of 56 kW and 64.5 kW, respectively, while cooling capacity reaches 52.5 kW and 60.3 kW.

The MidiPACK-PI uses a plug-and-play configuration with an integrated hydraulic module. The system incorporates an electronic expansion valve, an outdoor-air temperature sensor for setpoint adjustment and a microprocessor-based controller with Rhoss’ Adaptive-Function-Plus logic.

The units also support master-slave operation of up to four machines connected in parallel. Other features include an EC brushless axial fan, a stainless-steel plate heat exchanger on the water side and automatic management of anti-legionella cycles.

“With these additions, MidiPACK-PI further strengthens its position as a versatile solution for commercial and multi-family residential applications, delivering high performance while leveraging the benefits of the natural R290 refrigerant,” the company said in a statement.
