The Hydrogen Stream: AEM electrolysis could deliver hydrogen at $3.27/kg, say Repsol, P2HP Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) and Repsol completed a 1,250-hour pilot of P2H2’s hybrid AEM electrolyzer technology, demonstrating operation at 40% to 100% load, pressures up to 30 bar and hydrogen purity of up to 99.9%. P2H2 projects an LCOH of €3.86 ($4.47)/kg, potentially falling to €2.82/kg under optimized renewable energy conditions, and the companies are considering a 500 kW-to-MW-scale demonstration.

The Hydrogen Stream: Pilot project in Iceland shows geothermal-driven H2 could achieve LCOH of $1.75/kg Syntholene’s geothermal-integrated SOEC hydrogen platform could produce hydrogen at an estimated $1.75–$2.10/kg, about one-third the cost of comparable unsubsidized green hydrogen in Europe. Its Iceland demonstration facility aims to validate low-emission hydrogen production and support future commercial-scale deployment, while addressing risks such as electricity costs, electrolyzer durability, and capital expenses.
