Alpha launches propane heat pump with reversible air-to-water inverter technology 

The system can reportedly deliver flow temperatures up to 75 C, operate in ambient temperatures down to -25 C, and integrates inverter-driven compressors, smart-grid compatibility, hybrid boiler operation and app-based remote controls.

UK-based heating specialist Alpha, a unit of Italian group Immergas, has launched the Magis M Top, a new monobloc air-to-water heat pump for residential heating, cooling and domestic hot water applications.

The new system uses propane (R290) refrigerant and is designed for both new-build and retrofit projects. The range includes 5 kW, 8 kW, 12 kW and 16 kW variants in both single-phase and three-phase configurations. Depending on the model, reported coefficient of performance (COP) values can reach up to 5.2.

The 5 kW and 6 kW models measure 850 mm x 1,270 mm x 500 mm, while larger 9 kW to 16 kW variants feature increased cabinet dimensions to accommodate higher-capacity compressors and heat exchangers. Sound pressure levels are rated as low as 35 dB(A) at three meters under low-noise operation.

According to the company, the heat pump can deliver flow temperatures of up to 75 C, enabling compatibility with high-temperature emitters such as existing radiators and fan coil systems. The units can reportedly operate in outdoor temperatures as low as -25 C and continue producing 65 C water at ambient temperatures of -10 C. The systems also integrate weather compensation, smart-grid compatibility and anti-legionella domestic hot water functions.

Alpha said the Magis M Top uses inverter-driven compressor technology to modulate output in line with heating demand, helping improve seasonal efficiency and reduce electricity consumption during partial-load operation.

The systems also use a DC inverter compressor combined with variable-speed circulation pumps and brushless fan motors. Alpha said the hydraulic package includes an expansion vessel, safety valve, and flow switch.

Remote monitoring and control are supported through the company’s app-based connectivity platform.
